The last time we had a ZvT finals in the GSL was more than a year ago when Nestea beat MarineKing in a 4-3 nail-biter in the second ever season of the GSL. Since then we had not had a single GSL finals that has gone to a deciding seventh game, meaning that the GSL is in a seven-season drought in terms of down-to-the-wire finishes. The MLB just broke a similar Game Seven-less World Series steak that was eight seasons long when the Cardinals beat the Texas Rangers in October. The streak was the longest in MLB history. However, the NHL once went for fifteen years without a 4-3 Stanley Cup Finals- from 1972 to 1986.
That same Second Open finals was also the last, and only, time the finals have featured a comeback win. Nestea went down 0-2 in the series against MarineKing, then known affectionately as Foxer, and never had an advantage in map score before winning the match 4-3. Hopefully this ZvT match-up will break the long streak of disappointing finals that seems to have plagued the GSL.
