Few followers of the Halo 3 Pro Circuit gave Carbon much of a chance in the 2008 National Championships. With a tough pairing in round one against second-seeded Triggers Down, who could blame them? Carbon clicked on all cylinders and shocked a massive standing-room-only crowd in Las Vegas as they bested Triggers Down in a five-game series. Though out-slayed in Game 1, Onslaught Capture the Flag, Carbon’s teamwork proved superior and they edged TD 5-4. Game 2 was just as close, but this time Triggers Down nailed the crucial late-game kills and prevailed 50-47 on The Pit Team Slayer. Ghostayame made sure Carbon would not fall behind, however, as his 31-24 performance during The Pit King of the Hill paced Carbon to a 250-190 win. Triggers Down needed a win on Guardian Oddball to extend the series and they delivered in a big way. The game was never really close, ending 250-122. The deciding game went down at Narrows. The Team Slayer affair saw Carbon maintain a five-kill lead through most of the game and, as the murmurs of the crowd grew and grew, they pushed their advantage further to a 50-39 win. Carbon erupted with the completion of their upset. The 3-2 series win put them in the Winners Bracket Semifinals.
