As usual, the eight versus nine match in Winners Bracket Round 2 of the Halo 2 Championship 4v4 tournament provided one of the event’s best series. FBI Icon, seeded eighth, met XiT Woundz, the ninth seed, for the right to meet Final Boss in Round 3.

The first two games looked as if XiT would waltz past Icon. Despite overtime, XiT nabbed Game 1, CTF Warlock, by the score of 4-3. In Game 2, it was KillerN’s world and FBI Icon just played in it. KillerN logged 20 kills to just eight deaths on Team Slayer Lockout, leading XiT to a 50-39 win. That victory put the ninth seed up 2-0 in the series and just one win from advancing.

Icon turned the momentum in Game 3, however, as they took a relatively easy 4:29-3:02 win on Midship Oddball. The action stayed on Midship for Game 4, but shifted to Capture the Flag. The teams were well matched, but clutch play from Havok allowed Icon to dictate the endgame. FBI Icon won 5-3 and had suddenly tied the match at two games apiece.

Then the campfest that is Team Slayer Sanctuary with snipers began. Both teams opted to play for position, not willing to lose control of their sniper rifle. The pace was tediously slow in the early going, with Icon maintaining slight leads for the first half of the game. Xit Woundz kept the game close and made several runs to nearly tie the game, but the lead was always just out of reach. With time running out and down five kills, XiT were forced to rush Icon. The last minute produced nearly as many kills as the rest of the game, as Icon pulled away for a 43-34 win. They finished the series on a 3-0 run and sent Xit to the Losers Bracket.

Icon move on to meet Final Boss in Round 3, where they will certainly have a tougher time coming back from 2-0.
