Fall Open Online Qualifiers

It's that time again; a new season, a new shot at getting into Group Play at a live Championship, where you’ll compete for international bragging rights and a huge stack of cash. The Fall StarCraft II Online Qualifiers are about to begin, and you can be a part of it all.

In Fall, we will be running both Open and Invite-Only Online Qualifiers. Each Qualifier will run in three regions: NA, EU and KR. The top players from the Open Online Qualifiers will move on to the Invite-Only round. The top players from each region of the Invite-Only Qualifiers will win all-expenses paid trips to the Fall Championship in Dallas on November 2-4, where they’ll start in Group Play.

Later this week,  we'll be contacting the players who have already earned the right to compete in the Invite-Only Online Qualifiers. This list includes the Top 88 from Raleigh, and more; see the full list of invited players. If you don't receive an invitation, don't worry--get a pass for the Open Online Qualifiers and that trip to Dallas could still be yours.

Passes for the Open Online Qualifiers cost $10 and are on sale now.

StarCraft 2 – Event Format

2012 Fall Open Online Qualifiers - Starcraft 2 Event Format

Fall Open Online Qualifiers Format & Seeding

1.   There will be 3 Open Online Qualifiers in the Fall Season (Europe, Korea/Taiwan, and North America).

2.   Players finishing in the top 8 in each Fall Open Online Qualifier will be invited to participate in the same region’s Fall Invite-Only Online Qualifier.

3.   The Fall Open Online Qualifiers will each support as many as 128 Players.

4.   The Fall Open Online Qualifier Brackets will be separated into a Winners Bracket and a Losers Bracket.  After losing a Match in a Winners Bracket, Players will enter a Losers Bracket.  A Match loss in a Losers Bracket will result in elimination from the Event.

5.   Players will be seeded based on the following criteria in this order: MLG Rank, Summer Invite-Only Online Qualifier Standings, and Summer Open Online Qualifier Standings.  If Summer Online Qualifier Consolation Matches were played, they may be used to break ties.  Ties may also be broken using the next available criteria or randomly.  In order to be seeded by Summer Open Online Qualifier Standings, Players must have finished in the top 32.  Players who have no MLG Rank, failed to finish in the top 32 of a Summer Open Online Qualifier, and didn’t participate in a Summer Invite-Only Online Qualifier will be seeded randomly.

Match Format

1.   All Matches will be Best of 3 Games unless the Players have already played each other in their Fall Open Online Qualifier.

2.   If Players are scheduled to play each other for a 2nd time in a Fall Open Online Qualifier, their Match will expand to a Best of 7, include the previous Match, and pick up where that Match left off.  For example, if Player A beat Player B 2 Games to 0 in the Winners Bracket, the Best of 7 will resume with Game 3 and Player A leading 2 Games to 0.

Registration

1.   Players may not participate in more than one Fall Open Online Qualifier.

2.   Registration for the Fall Open Online Qualifiers will open at 12 PM EDT on Tuesday, September 11th.

3.   Registration for each Fall Open Online Qualifier will close 24 hours prior to the start of the Open Online Qualifier.

4.   Fall Open Online Qualifier Player Passes will be sold in the MLG Store for $10.

5.   After obtaining a Player Pass, all Players must use Team Builder in order to complete their Registration, including accepting the 2012 Pro Circuit Official Rules.

6.   Unused Player Passes may not be kept as a Credit and later used in the purchase of a future Event Pass.

7.   If a Player who finishes in the Top 8 of a Fall Open Online Qualifier is unable to participate in their Region’s Fall Invite-Only Online Qualifier, an alternate Player will not be selected to take their place.

StarCraft 2 – Rules

2012 Fall Open Online Qualifiers - Starcraft 2 Event Rules

General Rules

1.   Players must provide their own Battle.net account, with an active Starcraft 2 license, for their Open Online Qualifier’s Region.

2.   Players may play a Match ahead of its scheduled start time.  However, Players may not delay the start of a Match, beyond its scheduled start time, without the approval of a Tournament Official.

3.   Players have a 15 minute grace period, after their Match’s scheduled start time, in which they must contact their opponent or a Tournament Official.  Players who fail to contact their opponent or a Tournament Official, during the grace period, may Forfeit their Match.

4.   Players may delay a Match between Games for up to five minutes.  Players can request that a Tournament Official enforce this five minute time limit.  After five minutes of a Tournament Official enforced delay, if the delaying Player is not present, they will Forfeit the Match.

5.   Players must not share the information stored on their MLG Username with another person.  This includes, but is not limited to the following: Passwords, Battle.net Accounts, and Email Addresses.

6.   Individuals may not use another Player’s Battle.net Account in the Online Qualifier.  Individuals may not allow another Player to use their Battle.net Account in the Online Qualifier.

7.   Players may not verbally abuse a Tournament Official.

8.   Players who break General Rules #5-7 may be disqualified from the Online Qualifier.

9.   Any sign of cheating may result in a Forfeit of the Game and/or disqualification from the Online Qualifier.

10. Players who are disqualified prior to the start of a Game will not be allowed to play in the Game.  Players who are disqualified during a Game must quit out of the Game.  Players who are disqualified won’t receive any benefits (seeding, prize, etc.) for their ranking in the Online Qualifier.  Such Players may also be subject to a Temporary Ban from MLG’s Network of Websites and/or a Ban from a future Pro Circuit Event(s).

11. Use of an incorrect Battle.net Account may result in a Forfeit of the Match.

12. Custom Game Creators who start a Game with the wrong Settings may Forfeit the Game, determined by a Tournament Official.  Players who quit out of a Game and claim that the wrong Settings were used will Forfeit the Game if they are unable to provide proof to back up their claim.

13. In order to dispute Game results, Players must notify a Tournament Official that they would like to Protest the Game before a new Game has begun.  In order to dispute Match results, Players must notify a Tournament Official that they would like to Protest the Match no longer than 15 minutes after the end of the Match.

14. Players may request that they be allowed to concede victory of a Game.  Players may request that their opponent not receive a Forfeit penalty or a penalty associated with receiving a Technical Foul.

15. Requests made pertaining to General Rules #13-14 will be decided upon by the Tournament Director.

Gameplay

1.   The exact MLG Map version must be used for all Games.

2.   The higher seeded Player must play as the Red team and the lower seeded Player must play as the Blue team.  The highest seed is 1.

3.   If a Game ends in a tie, it must be replayed.

4.   Players found to have chatted about companies, sponsors, or products during a Game will be given a Foul.  Players found to have chatted excessively during a Game will be given a Foul.  Language used in in-game chat will be governed by the Pro Circuit Conduct Rules.  Players who receive 3 Fouls in an Open Online Qualifier and qualify for their Region’s Invite-Only Online Qualifier will lose their first opportunity to choose a Game’s Map in that Invite-Only Online Qualifier.  Each subsequent Foul that a Player receives will result in the loss of another opportunity to choose a Game’s Map in that Invite-Only Online Qualifier.

5.   Both Players may switch their Race after each Game.

6.   No warm-up or practice Games are permitted once the Match’s first Game has begun.

7.   The higher seeded Player must host all Games in a Match.

8.   Only Tournament Officials may connect to a Game as an observer.  Inviting someone other than a Tournament Official to observe a Match may result in a Forfeit of the Game.

9.   If a Player loses their connection to the Host during the first minute of a Game, and then the in-game disconnect timer reaches 0, the Game must be replayed.  If a Player loses their connection to the Host after the first minute of a Game, and then the in-game disconnect timer reaches 0, the disconnecting Player will Forfeit the Game.

10. If an observer loses their connection to the Game, but both Players remain in the Game, the Game must continue.

Map Selection

1.   All Map Vetoes and Map Choices must be made prior to the start of a Match.

2.   For a Best of 3 Games Match, the higher seeded Player must choose to act as Player A or Player B.  Player A must veto one Map first, then Player B must veto two Maps, and then Player A must veto one more Map.  The vetoed Maps will not be played in the Match.  Player B must choose the Game 1 Map and then Player A must choose the Game 2 Map.  The Game 3 Map will be the Map that hasn’t been chosen or vetoed.

3.   If a Best of 3 Games Match is expanded to a Best of 7 Games Match, Map Vetoes are no longer taken into account and the loser of a Game must select the Map for the next Game.  For example, if Game 3 wasn’t played in the initial Match, the loser of the initial Match must select the Map for that Game.

4.   No Map may be played more than once in a Best of 3 or Best of 7 Games Match.

5.   No Map will be considered as having been used in a Game that is forfeited according to General Rules #3.

Reporting Results

1.   The winning Player must report the Match results.

2.   If a Match isn’t played at the scheduled time, and neither Player contacts a Tournament Official during the Grace Period, the Match win will be awarded to the higher seeded Player.

3.   If a Match is played, both Players claim that they won, but neither Player has proof, the Match win will be awarded to the higher seeded Player.
