Competition Rules

General Rules

1.   Players must provide their own Battle.net account, with an active Starcraft 2 license, for their Open Online Qualifier’s Region.
2.   Players have a 15 minute grace period, after their Match’s scheduled start time, in which they must contact their opponent or a Tournament Official.  Players who fail to contact their opponent or a Tournament Official, during the grace period, may Forfeit their Match.
3.   Players may delay a Match between Games for up to five minutes.  Players can request that a Tournament Official enforce this five minute time limit.  After five minutes of a Tournament Official enforced delay, if the delaying Player is not present, they will Forfeit the Match.
4.   Players must not share the information stored on their MLG Username with another person.  This includes, but is not limited to the following: Passwords, Battle.net Accounts, and Email Addresses.
5.   Individuals may not use another Player’s Battle.net Account in the Online Qualifier.  Individuals may not allow another Player to use their Battle.net Account in the Online Qualifier.
6.   Players may not verbally abuse a Tournament Official.
7.   Players who break General Rules #4-#6 may be disqualified from the Online Qualifier.
8.   Use of an incorrect Battle.net Account will result in a Forfeit of the Match.
9.   Custom Game Creators who start a Game with the wrong Settings may Forfeit the Game, determined by a Tournament Official.  Players who quit out of a Game and claim that the wrong Settings were used will Forfeit the Game if they are unable to provide proof to back up their claim.
10. Players should contact a Tournament Official if they encounter any problems scheduling or playing a Match.  In order to get a Forfeit win, Players should contact a Tournament Official and invite them into the Custom Game, so that they can confirm that the Player was online at the scheduled time.
11. In order to dispute Game results, Players must notify a Tournament Official that they would like to Protest the Game before a new Game has begun.  In order to dispute Match results, Players must notify a Tournament Official that they would like to Protest the Match no longer than 15 minutes after the end of the Match.
12. Players may request that they be allowed to concede victory of a Game.
13. Requests made pertaining to General Rules #11-12 will be decided upon by the Tournament Director.

Gameplay
1.   The exact MLG Map version must be used for all Games.
2.   Players found to have chatted about companies, sponsors, or products during a Game will be given a Foul.  Players found to have chatted excessively during a Game will be given a Foul.  Language used in in-game chat will be governed by the Pro Circuit Conduct Rules.  Players who receive 3 Fouls in an Open Online Qualifier and qualify for their Region’s Invite-Only Online Qualifier will lose their first opportunity to choose the next Game’s Map in that Invite-Only Online Qualifier.  Each subsequent Foul that a Player receives will result in the loss of another opportunity to choose the next Game’s Map in that Invite-Only Online Qualifier.
3.   Any sign of cheating may result in a Forfeit of the Game and/or disqualification from the Online Qualifier.
4.   The Map for Game 1 of all Best of 3 Games Matches will be chosen by a series of vetoes.  Players must alternate vetoing one Map, starting with the lower seeded Player, until there is only one Map remaining (the Game 1 Map).  Each Player’s first Map Veto will stand as a Map that can’t be chosen for Games 2 or 3.  If a Match is expanded to a Best of 7, Map Vetoes are no longer taken into account.
5.   The loser of a Game must select the Map for the next Game.  When Best of 7 Games Matches are resumed, the loser of the previous Match must select the Map for the first Game.
6.   No Map may be played more than once in the same Best of 3 Game Match or Best of 7 Game Match.
7.   No Map will be considered as having been used in a Game that is Forfeited according to General Rules #2.
8.   Both Players may switch their Race after each Game.
9.   No warm-up or practice Games are permitted once the Match’s first Game has begun.
10. Players who are disqualified prior to the start of a Game will not be allowed to play in the Game.  Players who are disqualified during a Game must quit out of the Game.  Players who are disqualified won’t receive any benefits (seeding, prize, etc.) for their ranking in the Event.  Such Players may also be subject to a Temporary Ban from MLG’s Network of Websites and/or a Ban from a future Pro Circuit Event(s).
11. The higher seeded Player must host all Games in a Match
12. Only Tournament Officials may connect to a Game as an observer.  Inviting someone other than a Tournament Official to observe a Match will result in a Warning.  Each subsequent Warning that a Player receives will result in a Forfeit of the Game.
13. If a Player loses their connection to the Host during the first minute of a Game, and then the in-game disconnect timer reaches 0, the Game must be replayed.  If a Player loses their connection to the Host after the first minute of a Game, and then the in-game disconnect timer reaches 0, the disconnecting Player will Forfeit the Game.
14. If an observer loses their connection to the Game, but both Players remain in the Game, the Game must continue.
15. The higher seeded Player must play as the Red team and the lower seeded Player must play as the Blue team.  The highest seed is 1.

Reporting Results
1.   The winning Player must report the Match results.
2.   If a Match isn’t played, and neither Player requests the Forfeit win, the Match win will be awarded to the higher seeded Player.
3.   If a Match isn’t played and both Players request the Forfeit win, but neither can prove that they were signed into the Battle.net network at the scheduled Match time, the Match win will be awarded to the higher seeded Player.

Match Format
1.   All Matches will be Best of 3 Games unless the Players have already played each other in the Spring Open Online Qualifier.
2.   If Players are scheduled to play each other for a 2nd time in a Spring Open Online Qualifier, their Match will expand to a Best of 7, include the previous Match, and pick up where that Match left off.  For example, if Player A beat Player B 2 Games to 0 in the Winners Bracket, the Best of 7 will resume with Game 3 and Player A leading 2 Games to 0.

Seeding
1.   Players will be seeded based on the following criteria in this order: Winter Online Qualifier Standings and 2011 Starcraft 2 Pro Circuit Rank Points.  If Winter Online Qualifier Consolation Matches were played, they may be used to break ties.  Ties may also be broken using the next available criteria or randomly.  Players who failed to finish in the top 32 of a Winter Online Qualifier, and have no 2011 Starcraft 2 Pro Circuit Rank Points, will be seeded randomly.
2.   The Winter Online Qualifiers’ Final Standings separate Players as follows: 9th Place, 13th Place, 17th Place, and 25th Place.
3.   The performance of Players finishing in the top 8 in each Spring Open Online Qualifier will be used to determine their seed in their region’s Spring Invite-Only Online Qualifier.  The performance of Players finishing 9th-32nd in each Spring Open Online Qualifier will be used to determine their seed in the Spring Championship Starcraft 2 Event.
